EDWARDS WINSTON-SALEM - Hugh Eugene Edwards March 1, 2012 Hugh Eugene Edwards, 87, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 4 at Frank Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel with Reverend Anne Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. He was born in Surry County to the late Gurney Eugene and Blanche Kiger Edwards. He served in the US Navy from 1943-1946. Mr. Edwards was a hard worker and was employed from 1946-1988 at Western Electric/AT&T and retired exactly 42 years to the day he started. He met and married Inez Walker in June 1950 and spent 61 happy years together until her death in 2011. He is survived by his brother and his wife, Jack K. and Donna Edwards of Winston-Salem; sister, Marilyn Hayden of Florida; sisters-in-law, Edith Walker and Dorothy Tucker both of Winston-Salem and Bonnie Edwards of Clemmons; brother-in-law, Howard Tucker and wife Shirley of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, Nelson and Donnie Edwards and sister, Nancy Edwards. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Forest Heights Senior Living, 2500 Polo Ridge Court, Winston-Salem, NC 27106. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Forest Heights for the excellent care and compassion shown to Mr. Edwards.
