Vera Lottie Benton, 88, Minot, died Monday, January 23, 2012 in a Minot Nursing Home.

Vera was born February 13, 1923 at Stuart, VA, the daughter of George and Pearl (Harris) New. She was raised and educated at country schools near Minot and graduated from Minot High School in 1941.

Vera was united in marriage to Robert Weed on June 11, 1944 at Surrey, ND. They made their home on a farm north of Minot. She was employed at Macs Bakery, Widdell's Bakery and then at the Minot State College Student Union, all Minot. Robert died in 1978.

Vera had also been employed as a housekeeper at St. Joseph's Hospital from 1965-1985. She was united in marriage to Wilmer Benton on September 18, 1981. They made their home at 1016 North Main for a number of years. He died May 24, 2006.

Vera was a charter member of Faith United Methodist Church, Minot. She was also a member of the Eagle's Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary and Women of the Moose, all of Minot.

Vera enjoyed reading, doing embroidery and tending to her flowers.

Her loving family includes, children, Gordon (Ellwood) Weed, Tennessee, James (Rachel) Weed, Burlington, ND; Step-children, Michael Benton, Washington and James Benton, Minnesota;Grandchildren, Gordy, Jennifer, Jarred & Misty; great-grandchildren, Alex, Emily, Phillip, Samantha, Jaxx and Ryan Jr; a step-grandson; sister, Mary Hambek, Andover, MN and brother, David (Helen) New, Surrey, ND.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Robert and Wilmer, sisters, Lorraine, Lucille and brothers, Frank, Art, Walter, Jesse, and George Jr.

Funeral service: Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. in Vincent United Methodist Church, Minot.

Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Minot.

Visitation: Wednesday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. in Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

In lieu of flowers or plants the family prefers memorials to Faith United Methodist Church or organization of the donor's choice.
