The funeral for Helen Shelby will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon with the Rev. Lyndy West officiating. Burial will be in Kenyon Cemetery.

Mrs. Shelby, 89, of Kenyon, a former Kenyon Sunset Home employee, died Saturday (April 3, 2004) at Angels Care Center in Cannon Falls.

Helen Helgeson was born May 27, 1914, in Wanamingo Township, Goodhue County to Henry and Inger (Overby) Helgeson. She grew up on the family farm and attended an area country school. One June 12, 1936, she married Roy Shelby. The couple moved to Kenyon where she worked at the canning company and later at Kenyon Sunset Home for more than 25 years.

After her husband's death in 1977, she moved to Kingsbury Court, where she lived until moving to Angels Care Center in 2001. Helen was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church and enjoyed playing cards and bingo.

Her daughter Judy (Marshall) Carlson of Goodhue, granddaughter Tami (Ken) Burr, and great-grandchildren Nicole and Dennis survive her. Her parents, husband Roy, six brothers, Eddie, Louis, Ted, Melvin, Harry, and twin Irwin and three sisters, Anna Evans, Martha Stokke, and Ida Bollenbach preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the service Wednesday at the church.
