Train Kills Shelbina Man

Shelbina, Mo., Nov. 26.—William Jefferson Peters, 66, of Shelbina was killed by a Chicago, Burlington & Quincy passenger train Thursday evening at 6:10.
Claude Musgrove, Shelby county coroner, said that it is believed that Peters ran in front of the train but there were no eyewitnesses and the engineer was not able to tell exactly what happened preceding the accident.
The train was traveling west and Peters was walking south toward the main part of town. His body was dragged over the crossing on Route 15 a distance of more than 100 feet and wrapped around a switch post near the city park on the opposite side of the track
Coroner Musgrove has set no date for an inquest.
Funeral services for Peters will be held Saturday afternoon at 2 in the Barkelew-Hawkins funeral home. The Rev. Clyde Murphy will officiate. Burial will be in I. O. O. F. cemetery here.
Mr. Peters was born Oct. 23, 1888, the son of John W. and Nancy Allen Peters. He married Maudie Zaner on May 25, 1912.
Survivors include three children, Jefferson Bernard, Mrs. John A. Johnston and Mrs. Harold Sheerwood, all of Mexico; a brother, Russell, of Monroe City; two sisters, Mrs. George Walker of Shelbina and Mrs. Amos Buffington of Hannibal; six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Those empaneled to serve on the jury for an inquest are Archie Bowling, Hurley Harrison, Carl Willhoit, Ernie Hamilton and Glenn Erdwins.
No date was set pending a check with the railroad company.
