Mrs. Margaret Brown Passes
Friends of Mrs. B. B. Burkett and Mrs. C. E. Polk will regret to know that their sister, Mrs. Margaret Brown of Laurel, succumbed to a heart attack on August 1st. For the past thirty years, Mrs. Brown was outstanding in her work as an instructor in commercial studies throughout the South. For ten years, she was principal of the commercial department of Clark College at Newton. She was later associted with the Alliance Business College of Alliance, Ohio and the Jackson Commercial College of Jackson.
In 1936, Mrs. Brown moved to Laurel where she established the Laurel Commercial School. Through this school, which was later recognized as the Federal Business College, she rendered a valuable service to a great many veterans who were enrolled in the school.
The funeral was conducted from the First Baptist Church of Laurel where she held her membership, with the Rev. L. G. Gates officiating.
