He was born March 25, 1922 in Surry County, to Rufus Lee and Lila Simmons Brinkley.
He served in the U.S. Army, was a prisoner of war in Germany, worked with the Mount Airy Police Department for 15years and Rogers Realty for several years and was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a wife, Dorothy Wall Brinkley: one daughter and son-in-law, Jane and George Humble of Greensboro; one son, Gary Lee Brinkley of Fuquay-Varina; one granddaughter, Anna Jane Brinkley of Fuquay-Varinal and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Brinkley was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
