Louise Emma Shurley Whittaker was born May 14, 1897 in rural Amite County, Mississippi to Homer Clifton and Ara Grace Taylor Shurley. She married Leon Anderson Whittaker on December 15, 1914 in Clarksdale, Mississippi and was the mother of Pete and Joe Whittaker and Katherine Whittaker Lee. She passed away at the Memphis General Hospital on July 29, 1924 at the age of 27 years after a brief illness and was buried in the Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis.
