Justus (sometimes found as Justice) was the first of three sons of Henry and Hannah Boyer Reyman. Henry is believed though not proved to be the son of Johannes Ludwig Reiman, who immigrated from Germany. Hannah was the daughter of Phillip J. and Catherine Boyer of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Henry married Hannah Boyer on April 27, 1808 at the First Reformed Church of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Henry and Hannah divorced in about 1815 and it is not believed that Justus retained any relationship with his father. Justus had two brothers, Theodore M and John Lewis (retained spelling of Reyman), and a half-brother from his father's second marriage, Benjamin Franklin Ryman.

Justus married Martha Dickens on May 4, 1837 in Marion County, Illinois.

Justus was an early circuit preacher for the Methodist Episopal Church in Marion County, Illinois.

He is described in Marion County histories as a prominent physician, referred in some as "old Doctor Ryman".

Justus and Martha had 6 children:
Mary (1839-1920) married Eli W. Jones
John (1846-1862)
Samuel T. (1847-1882) married Martha J. Jones
Ann (1851-?)
Matilda (1852-1945) married Meredith Doolen
Martin Luther (1857-1921) married 1. Audrey Smith and 2. Norma Margaret Guest

Justus and Martha have a great-grandson, Herbert Dickens Ryman who is found in the Famous section on Find A Grave.
