Frances Baumgarner Lombard of Highlands, passed from life to life everlasting the evening of January 30, 2012 at the Fidelia Eckerd Living Center, after a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 3, 2012 at Cashiers Baptist Church, with Reverend Trenton Connelly, Reverend Johnny Norris, Reverend Scott Patrick officiating. Burial will be at Whiteside Cove Cemetry. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 am until 11:00 am.

A native of Jackson County, Frances was the daughter of the late Rev. Frank and Molina Baumgarner and a graduate of the Whiteside Cove School. She was married to Everett "John" Lombard from 1939 until his death in 1979, and to John Edwards from 1993 until his death in 2001.

Frances was a homemaker and proprietor of Lombard's Lodge. For many years she wrote about mountain life in a weekly column entitled, "From the Hills of Home" for The Highlander Newspaper. The articles were compiled and published into a book under the same name.

In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by sisters; Nina Alexander, Edna Smith, Maude Bradley, Lola Fugate, brothers; Claude Baumgarner, Franklin Baumgarner, Thomas Baumgarner; and son Randy Lombard.

She is survived by daughters Freda McCall and husband, Richard, and Sandy Bryson and husband Jim all of Highlands, four grandsons, two grand daughters-in-law and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to: Four Seasons Hospice, 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731. Designate funds to the Highlands area.
