Bertha L. Sweet Waters, 91, a resident of Willow Gardens Care Center, Marion, went to be with the Lord, Thursday. Febraury 18, 1999, after a brief illness at the care center. Services: 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 22, Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, by the Rev. Don McGarvey. Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery, Central City.
Survivors include four children, Mary Haines and husband Hal of Cedar Rapids, Donna Paulins and husband Lonnie of Marion, Jerry Sweet and wife Linda of Manchester and Donald Sweet and wife Dixie of Homosassa, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Donald Sweet; and her second husband, Merle Waters.
Bertha was the last of 12 children in her family. Bertha was born October 4, 1907, in Ollie, Iowa, to William and Mary Altman Halferty. A former resident of Coggon, she married Donald F. Sweet on August 18, 1930. He died January 3, 1952. She then married Merle L. Waters on July 14, 1956, and he died October 22, 1985. Bertha was a homemaker and worked in the Coggon school lunchroom for several years. She was a former member of Free Methodist Chruch, Marion.
Bertha was a good friend and helpful to everyone. She will be truly missed by all.
