Actress. Born Maude Mary Hawk in Memphis, Tennessee, she was one of the leading ladies of the American stage before making her film debut in "David Copperfield" (1911). From 1911 to 1958, she appeared in films which included "The Golden Cross" (1914), "Bondwoman" (1915), "The Buccaneer" (1938), "Union Pacific" (1939), "The Unfaithful" (1947) and "The Ten Commandments" (1956). She was also a successful play writer.
