F.L. GRINER SHOT AND KILLED AT DEL RIO
ASSAILANT FLED, BUT HE COULD NOT CROSS RIO GRANDE
Deceased Was Brother of Judge J.G. Griner - Bullet Entered Under Shoulder Blade and Broke Spinal Column.
Del Rio, Tex. - May 16 - Special - F.L. Griner [Frederick Leonard Rivera Griner], brother of Judge J.G. Griner [Jones Green Griner] was shot and mortally wounded in the streets of Del Rio this morning by Ignacio Hernandez, a Mexican. The assailant succeeded in escaping from Del Rio but was captured on the banks of the Rio Grande by Officers. Had it not been for a rise in the Rio Grande, Hernandez would doubtless have crossed into Mexico and made his escape. Griner was taken to the home of his brother.
It was found that the ball had entered under the right shoulder blade and moved downward, breaking the spinal column. Upon examination the physician stated that he could not live till noon. He died at 10:25, never having regained consciousness. Mr. Griner was 32 years old and was raised in Del Rio[Born in Uvalde, Texas]. Yesterday he attended mass at the Catholic Church of which he was a member. For a long time he was in the employ of the Southern Pacific Railroad, but recently resigned his position. All inquires have failed to reveal the cause that led to the shooting. The funeral of Mr. Griner will take place at 10 a.m. tomorrow from the house of Judge J.G. Griner
