George Bruns was born March 3, 1864 in San Francisco California to Nicholas and Sophia Staub Bruns. His father was a pioneer San Francisco businessman owning a fleet of schooners that sailed out of San Francisco in the 1860s/70s. On May 3, 1902 George married Hattie Dobbel of Hayward California. Hattie was the daughter of Hayward pioneers John and Gaschen Dobbel who owned 1020 acres along Highland Boulevard and Dobbel Avenue above the present site of California State University. After they married George and Hattie purchased a ranch in El Verano California where they raised their two daughters, Viola Garms Kolb and Dorothy Ruth Kennett. George's ashes rest next to his sister Hattie Topfer and her husband Harry Topfer in Chapel of Memories Columbarium, Oakland California.
