Henry C. Meigs was born at Park Hill, Tahlequah Dist., Cherokee Nation, IT; the son of Return Jonathan Meigs and Jane "Jennie" Ross (Cherokee), daughter of Chief John Ross.

He married Josephine L. Bigelow (buried at Citizens); they had the following children: William Ross Meigs b. Mar 30, 1869, d. Oct. 30 1870; Caroline "Carrie" Few Meigs b. June 14, 1871, who married Richard C. Adams; Annie Stapler Meigs b. June 28, 1873, married Franklin Josiah Boudinot; Robert Henry Meigs b. Mar 17, 1876; James McDonald Meigs b. June 25, 1880; Alice Maud Meigs b. Feb. 02, 1883; Jospephine Lavenia Meigs b. June 23, 1885; and Thomas Fields Meigs b. Apr. 11, 1878.

He was the grandson of Chief John Ross, Clerk of IL Dist, Aug. 01, 1893 and Judge on Aug 5, 1895; Blood: 1/4 Cherokee; 1851 Drennan Roll: Tahlequah, 225, 1880 Cherokee Nation Census: IL, 1143; 1890 CN Census: IL, 1720; ;Dawes Roll: card# 2363, roll# 18743; Cherokee Name: Ga-da-qua-la which means "Clay;" Occupation: Bet. 1880-90, Clerk.
