Joy Smith Ballard Kirk at the age of 83, has joined her other family members on February 24, 2012. She was born on February 10, 1929 in Henrieville, UT to Robert Earl Smith and Caroline Evelyn Goulding.

Joy was born and raised in Henrieville, UT. She went to grade school in Henrieville and High School in Tropic, UT. She came to Hurricane as a young girl at the age of 17 where she stayed and worked and then married Durward S. Ballard, they later divorced. She married Darrell Grant Kirk in 1987 and they were together until his death. She enjoyed and loved watching basketball (mainly the Jazz), sewing, crocheting and making quilts not only for her home but for others as well. She loved fishing and taking trips with her sister Ida. She was a homemaker, daughter, sister, mother and grandmother and a friend to all those who she knew. She had a wonderful sense of humor and always helped those in need.

She is survived by her children; Edward (Barb) Ballard of Spokane, WA, Jason (Marilyn) Ballard of Hurricane, UT, Guy Ballard of Mt. Carmel Junction, UT, Judy (Jerry) Martinez of LaVerkin, UT, Shirley (Danny) Button of Fredonia, AZ, and Elaine (Kirtis) Robertson of Washington, UT; her 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; her 2 sisters, Ida Stoddard and Loa (Max) Sevy and her brother Roe (Colleen) Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Caroline Smith; her first husband, Durward S. Ballard and her second husband, Darrell Grant Kirk; siblings, Guy Smith, Van Smith, Amy Clark, Jed Smith, Lee Smith, Don Smith and Vee Smith.

Funeral services will be Saturday, March 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in the Hurricane LDS 12th Ward Chapel, 2600 West 452 North, Hurricane, UT. The viewing will be held prior to services from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
