Eugenia E. Barnett was born July 26, 1888 in Eufaula, Alabama. She was the daughter of Augustus William Barnett and Adele Connor Barnett. Augustus William Barnet was born in Washington, Georgia, the son of Samuel Jack Barnett and Elizabeth Wingfield Worsham. After completing a medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania, he moved to Barbour County, Alabama where he became a prominent physician, merchant, and Methodist Minister. Adele Connor was born in 1849 at Cokesbury, South Carolina, the daughter of Paul Woolfolk Connor and Elizabeth C Hodges. She died October 5, 1959 in Virginia.

Eugenia Barnett often used the nickname “Euna” and occasionally “Una.” In the probate records for her father, she is identified as Una Barnett. She uses the nickname “Euna” most often as an adult and her headstone is inscribed as “Euna.”

Euna Barnett married in Mr. George R. Berryman on December 15, 1910 in Atlanta, Georgia. The couple met in Dothan, Alabama. According to the Dothan Eagle newspaper (1910 December 17), Mr. Berryman, a professional architect, was the superintendent of construction for a new federal building in Dothan. Miss Barnett was residing in Dothan with her sister, Mrs. Thomas D. Sale [nee Anna D Barnett]. After the death of her husband in 1898, Adele Barnett, with Euna and son, Reese Barnett, went to live with her daughter’s family.

On August 5, 1915, Euna applied for membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution. On her application she gives her name as Eugenia (Euna) B. Berryman. The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) approved her application and issued her DAR identification number 117174. Euna proved her Revolutionary war lineage to her great grandfather, William Barnett (1747-1834), who commanded a troop of horsemen from Mecklenburg County, N. C., and later served under Sumter in the South Carolina troops. William Barnett was born in Mecklenburg, N. C.; died in Wilkes County, Ga.
