Myrtle J. Germeroth, 91, died November 13, 2019 at her home in Hanover.
Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. today at the Hanover Mortuary. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 16 at Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover. Jill Duis will officiate. Mae Nieman will play the organ while the congregation sings “Softly and Tenderly Jesus Is Calling”, “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art” and “On Eagles Wings”.
The pallbearers will be Steven Germeroth, Alvin Berndt, Phil Berndt, Nick Groves, Peter Kruse and Max Mizer.
Burial will be in the Hanover Cemetery.
Mrytle was born on June 4, 1928 near Herkimer, KS, to George and Martha (Wasserman) Frauhiger. She was baptized, confirmed and attended school at Zion Lutheran Church in Herkimer.
Before her marriage, she worked for several families caring for children and doing other household duties. While attending a church youth group gathering in western Kansas, she met Edwin Germeroth. There was an immediate attraction between the two, but it was not until a couple months later when Myrtle wrote a letter to Edwin that it developed into a romance. Eventually Edwin moved to eastern Kansas and they were married a year later on September 7, 1947 at Zion Lutheran Church in Herkimer. They lived in Marysville until moving to Hanover in 1957.
Myrtle was a homemaker and loved cooking. She also enjoyed playing cards, visiting with friends and family, square dancing, traveling, crocheting, embroidering and playing the piano.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Herkimer, Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Marysville and then in 1970, transferred to Zion Lutheran Church in Hanover.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edwin in 2013; and brother, Vernon Frauhiger.
Survivors include her son, Dale (Connie) Germeroth, Moundridge, KS; Darla (Joe Rettura) Germeroth, Scranton, PA, and Sheila Germeroth, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Steven Germeroth, Moundridge, KS, Jill (Jeff) Duft, Kansas City, KS, and Ryan Welp, Overland Park, KS; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
