Capt. Justin Mark Salyards
Retired Navy Capt. Justin Mark Salyards, 85, of Pass Christian, Miss., and Conway, NH, died Dec. 25, 2000, in Pass Christian. A native of New Albany, Ind., he was retired from the Naval Reserve. He served in World War II and the Korean War aboard minesweepers in the Atlantic and Pacific campaigns. He was a graduate of Indiana University, Dartmouth College Naval Institute and the University of Utah Law School. He retired from the General Electric Company in 1973 and was active in recreational real estate sales on the Gulf Coast for many years. Capt. Salyards was preceded in death by his first wife, Florence Salyards; parents Jules V. and Florine Young Salyards; and a brother, Manly Salyards. Survivors include his wife, Hilda Rouse Salyards, of Pass Christian; two sons, Gregory Salyards, of Washington D.C., and Timothy Salyards, of Biloxi, Miss.; a sister, Jeanne Park, of Florida; two stepsons, Keith Rouse, of Gulfport, and Ken Rouse, of Biloxi, Miss.; and a number of nieces and nephews. There will be a private burial at a later date. Memorial donations can be sent to the Conway Historical Society, P.O. Box 1949, Conway, NH 03818.
