DATED: ICKESBURG, APRIL 25. Last Thursday John Dean, an aged and respected citizen of this place, passed away after a lingering illness, he having been an invalid a number of years, having contracted chronic diarrhea while in the army. He was a member of the 208th regiment, P. V., during the rebellion. His affliction caused him at times intense suffering and especially during the latter years of his life; but he bore all his suffering with fortitude and patience of a Christian, and passed quietly away to that better land where all suffering is at an end. He was born in Juniata county and was aged 71 years 11 months and 6 days. He was the father of 3 children, Catharine, married to Samuel Stewart, Jennie, married to Samuel Sweger, both of this place, and Dr. G. C. Dean, deceased, late of Lewistown, Pa. Mr. Dean was a resident of Ickesburg nearly 35 years. The funeral was held yesterday morning; interment at Buffalo cemetery. Mr. Dean was for for many years a consistent member of the Reform church, and his pastor, Rev. T. C. Stock, of Blain, officiated at funeral, assisted by Rev. E. E. Dietterich of this place. Mrs. Dean, wife of the deceased, died July 13, 1898.
