Earl C. Osborn, 74, a former Janesville area resident, died Sunday morning at Baxter County Regional Hospital, Mountain Home, Ark. He was born March 22, 1911, in Milton Junction. He was a police officer in Janesville from 1937 until 1959, when he retired as captain. In 1961 he became chief of police in Edgerton, retiring in 1967 when he moved to Mountain Home. He married Jessie Barker in March 1936. She died in September, 1949. He married Violet Husen Schmeling on Oct. 15, 1950, in Janesville. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Mountain Home, Masonic Lodge No. 55 in Janesville and the Zor Shrine in Madison. He was a life member of the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association.
Surviving are his wife, Violet; three sons, Donald W. Osborn and Kenneth B. Osborn, both of Janesville, and Richard Schmeling of Edgerton; a daughter, Geraldine Dallman of Janesville; 10 grandchildren; a brother, William Osborn of Beloit; and a sister, Mary Hanaman of Plymouth. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Henning Funeral Home, Janesville, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.
