Mrs. Hakes, 71, died Saturday at a Mason City nursing home, following an illness of several months.
She was born Aug. 9, 1892, to Albert & Nellie Brown Olinger in Story County. She was married to , Vance A Hakes Jan. 28, 1914. They farmed near Nevada until 1919 then moving to Amboy, Minn., and in 1939 to Algona.
Since 1944 she has made her home with a daughter, Mrs. Edgar Etherington, Plymouth, Clear Lake and Woden.
Survivors include one son, Harold Rialto, Calif.; two daughters, Faye Etherington, Woden, and Evelyn Caven, Amboy, Minn.; one sister, Maude Marsh, Clear Lake, 22 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one son ,Gail, and two brothers, Howard and .Ralph Olinger
