From the Mena Star, Mena, Arkansas, October 16, 1930:

RUBY TRAYWICK IS DEAD

Ruby Traywick, the 16-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Traywick of Mena, died Friday morning at St. Edwards hospital in Fort Smith. The girl had been a patient at the hospital for some weeks, having been taken there for an operation but being too weak to undergo the ordeal. The remains will likely be brought back to Mena for burial.

Funeral services for Ruby Traywick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Traywick, were held Saturday afternoon from the Apostolic church on De Queen street. Elder John T. Davis was in charge. Burial took place at Odd Fellows cemetery [now Pinecrest]. The girl, who was 14 years of age, died at Fort Smith, after having been taken there for an operation, which could not be performed.

The Hatfield Sun--D.E. Myers started to Mena Friday to attend the political contest but gave up the trip to help a family in trouble. St. Johns Hospital in Fort Smith notified him as he started to leave town that Ruby Traywick was very low. Mr. Myers, realizing what that meant, hurried to tell her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Traywick, who live just west of the Two Mile church and are in destitute circumstances.

"The end of my dream," the mother cried loudly, as 7 children followed her into the house screaming. Overcome by the sorrowing family, Mr. Myers then waited for them to get ready and he started with them to Fort Smith. But at Mena a phone message headed them off, stating Ruby was dead. Mr. Myers then got a hearse and sent it to Fort Smith for the girl and she was brought back and buried Saturday at Odd Fellows cemetery [now Pinecrest], Mena. Numbers and numbers of times Mr. Myers has helped out needy families the past few months.

Two Mile Twitters--Ruby Traywick, Mr. and Mrs. Traywick's fourteen-year-old daughter, died at the hospital at Fort Smith last week where she was taken for appendicitis. The funeral services were held at Mena Saturday. We extend our sympathy to the bereaved.
