STEWARDSON COUPLE MARRIED JUNE 7

Stewardson, June 13 -- Charles Chappelear and Miss Lola Kessler, both of Stewardson, were united in marriage in the Methodist church here Sunday evening, June 7, at 4:30. The ceremony was performed by Rev. W.J. Edmunds in the presence of the near relatives. The ring ceremony was used.

The bride's dress was a lovely creation of white point lace and silk crepe. She carried roses. She was attended by her sister, Miss Oma Kessler, who was dressed in shell pink crepe, and carried pink roses.

The bridegroom wore a blue suit and was attended by Harold Kessler, brother of the bride.

Charles Chappelear is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R.W. Chappelear of Sigel, Ill., and the bride is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kessler of Stewardson. Both young people are well known school teachers of this community.

Charles was a graduate of Indiana State Teachers College with a B.S. in Commerce and Physical Education. He was also a graduate of the University of Illinois with a M.S. in Education.

1951 - Assistant Superintendent, Elementary Principal and Driver's Training at Neoga High School. The Senior Class of '51 willed to him a hopped up Model A Ford for Driver's Training Class.

1952 - Elementary Principal and he was a bus driver. The Senior Class of '52 willed him a Driver's training class.

1953 - Junior High Principal, Superintendent of Transportation and he taught Junior High Arthmetic. The Senior Class of '53 willed him a loud speaker so everyone could hear his timid voice.

Charles E. Chappelear, 90, of Stewardson died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital, Effingham.

He was born Aug. 8, 1903, in Sigel, the son of Robert Walter and Gertrude (Paxton) Chappelear. He married Lola Ruth Kessler, June 7, 1931, in Stewardson.

Mr. Chappelear was a former teacher and coach, who had taught in the Strasburg, Stewardson and DeLand School Districts; was a teacher and principal of the Neoga School District and had retired as principal of the Elk Grove School District.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Stewardson, a 68-year member of the Neoga Masonic Lodge #279 A.F. & A.M., Consistory - Valley of Danville - Danville, Ill., Ained Shrine East St. Louis, Ill., and a member of the state and national retired teachers associations.

Surviving are his wife, Lola, a patient in the Evergreen Nursing Center of Effingham; brothers and sisters-in-laws, C.F. and Oma McCormick, Harold and Wilma Kessler, all of Stewardson and Valorie Chappelear of Berwyn, Ill. He was preceded in death by a brother.

Services for Mr. Chappelear were held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the United Methodist Church of Stewardson, with Pastor Curt Rush officiating. The organist Carolyn Moomaw and the vocalists were David Slifer, Edward Anderson and Aaron Huffmaster. Songs were "When They Ring Those Golden Bells" and "Amazing Grace." Mrs. Phyllis Cowel sang, "How Great Thou Art."

Pallbears were Paul Halcomb, John Vaughn, Gene Vaughn, Tim Lenz, Fred Stevens and Paul Courson. Burial was in the Stewardson Cemetery. Memorials: World's Children, Winter Haven, Fla.
