BUSHNELL — Franklin Garrett Newman, 78, died Sunday, Feb, 26, 2012.

Mr. Newman was born in Bedford County, VA. He lived in Bushnell for 30 years and was a member of American Legion Post 101 at Beville's Corner. He was retired from the Navy and was a disabled Vietnam veteran. He worked as an air-conditioning mechanic for the Pinellas County School System and retired to a farm in Bushnell.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley E.; daughters Ellen Michelle Earley, Groveland, and Melinda Ruth Anello, Zephyrhills; three grandchildren; brothers Cline, Richard, and Eddie, all of Virginia; sisters Maggie Garlick, Phyllis States, Linda Whitmore, and Barbara Hayes, all of Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, 7020 A.C. Skinner Parkway, Ste. 100, Jacksonville, FL 32256 or to the Lane Purcell Hospice House, 2452 CR 526E, Sumterville, FL 33585.

Franklin Garrett Newman, 78, of Bushnell, FL, died
Sunday, February 26, 2012 at Land O'Lakes, FL. He
was born March 1, 1933 in Bedford County, VA. Mr.
Newman lived in Bushnell for 30 years and was a
member of the American Legion Post #101 at Beville's
Corner. He was retired from the U.S. Navy and a
disabled Vietnam Veteran. He worked as an A/C
mechanic for the Pinellas County School System and
retired to be a gentleman farmer in Bushnell.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley E. Newman of
Bushnell, FL; daughters, Ellen Michelle (Larry) Earley
of Groveland, FL, and Melinda Ruth (Vito) Anello of
Zephyrhills, FL; grandchildren, Hannah Earley of
Groveland, FL, Lane Earley of Groveland, FL, and Peter
Anello of Zephyrhills, FL; brothers, Cline Newman of
Virginia, Richard (Frances) Newman of Virginia, and
Eddie (Dolores) Newman of Virginia; sisters, Maggie
(Jimmy) Garlick of Virginia, Phyllis (Don) States of
Virginia, Linda Whitmore of Virginia, and Barbara
(Bobby) Hayes of Virginia; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis; and
sisters, Mabel, Doris, Shirley, and Jean.
