Mrs. Maxine Browne 79, of Slaton and formerly of Colorado City and
Loraine, died Monday, May 7, 2001 in a Lubbock hospital Graveside services
were held Wednesday in the Colorado City Cemetery with Rev. Chris Downer
officiating. Arrangements were handled by Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.
Mrs. Browne was born to Harvey and Earline Calaway Leach on February 22,
1922 in Mitchell County She married Melvin Lee Browne on August 10, 1936
in Mitchell County He preceded her in death on April 3, 1982. She was a retired
clerk for Perkin's Apothecary and a member of the First Baptist Church in
Loraine.
She is survived by a daughter, Verlette (and husband, Claude) Kitchens of
Slaton; a sister, Irene Browne of Westbrook, two granddaughters, two great-
granddaughters and one great-grandson
