Dr John Hodges Lucas was the son of Dr. Willis Lucas and Sarah Sallie Linam Lucas. His siblings are:Mary Elizabeth Lucas 1816 – 1901 and Sarah Frances Lucas Casey 1818 – 1853.

Dr John Hodges Lucas served during the War Between the States as Assistant Surgeon for Company C/D of the 5th Mississippi Cavalry. His paternal grandfather Jeremiah Lucas and his maternal grandfather, George Linam, served in the Revolutionary War.
Dr John Hodges Lucas was a splendid physican. Hodges was the maiden name of his Lucas grandmother.

Dr Lucas married twice, first to Amanda Mary Rankin, and second to Teresa B Camp.
