Samuel C. Mounts, 85 years old, a veteran of the Civil War, died at 7:20o'clock last night at his home Mar 27, 1902 , 100 North First Street, after a long illness. He was seriously ill only for the last two years, during the last of which he had been absolutely helpless.Mr. Mounts was born and reared in Prospect, Ohio, where he enlisted in the One Hundred and Seventy-fourth Ohio Regiment at the outbreak of the Civil War. After the war, he moved to Bowling Green, Clay County,Indiana, and later to Saline City, Indiana. During his life he was a farmer and cattle trader, but while he lived in Saline City, he was a railroad employee. He had lived in Terre Haute about eleven years.Besides his second wife, Mrs. Catharine Mounts, he is survived by two grand-daughters, and the following two daughters, Mrs. James Durham of Chicago and Mrs. Calhoun of Cario, Illinois. The funeral will take place Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock from the residence on north First Street and the body will be buried in Highland Lawn cemetery. When he lived in Clay County, Mrs. Mounts was a member of the Baptist Church.
