Shirley J. Laney, 74, of Monroe, died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday at Fountain View of Monroe.

There will be no services, cremation has taken place. The family will hold a celebration of her life at a later date. Rupp Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Shirley was born July 10, 1937 in Monroe, she was the daughter of Frank and Edna (Thomas) Stockard. She was married to Bert Laney.

She loved to take care of everyone, especially the children in the family. Shirley enjoyed watching TV, particularly soap operas; cooking; joking and kidding around, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by a brother William Stockard of Monroe; four sisters, Bernice (Jess) Graves of Morristown, Tennessee, Margaret Black, Janice Claiborne and Joan Knight all of Monroe and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
