Walter W. Wang, 95, Jamestown, formerly of Courtenay, N.D., died Monday, March 3, 2008, at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown. Mr. Wang was born March 8, 1912, in Courtenay, the son of Louis and Martha (Larson) Wang. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Courtenay.

Walter W. Wang, 95, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Courtenay, ND, died Monday, March 3, 2008 at Jamestown Hospital.

Walter was born March 8, 1912 in Courtenay, ND, the son of Louis and Martha (Larson) Wang. He was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Courtenay and also attended school in Courtenay.

He followed in his father's footsteps as a carpenter and painter. He joined the CCC from 1935 to 1937. He worked for Union Central Life Insurance and the Federal Land Bank. In 1939, he worked for the Bank of North Dakota.

On August 31, 1940, Walter married Alice Brickner in Jamestown at the home of Rev. Joseph Johnson.

On June 9, 1943, he enlisted in the Navy Sea Bees and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged on November 18, 1945 as a machinist's mate first class.

He lived in the Courtenay area all his life. After the war, he worked in the Courtenay area as a carpenter, painter and for farmers in the area. He managed the Courtenay Theatre, served on the school board, was Fire Chief of Courtenay Fire Department, was City Police Chief, served on the City Council and was Mayor of Courtenay. He was mail messenger for the Post Office, and substitute mail carrier of 20 years. He was a member of the American Legion and a lifetime member of the V.F.W.

Walter is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Keith) Kiser; two sons, Gary (Linda) Wang and Dennis (Vicky) Wang, all of Fargo, ND; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a stillborn son; three sisters, Clara, Mabel and Cora and four brothers, Iver, Alfred, Lawrence and Clifford.
