Richard was born in Opelousas, La. on October 26, 1938 to Hinton Turner Griffin and Helen Mildred (Cuz) Sandoz Griffin and he left on February 26, 2012, at the age of 73.
He attended school in Opelousas and graduated from high school at East Jefferson High in 1957 in Metairie, La. He graduated from Junior College at Marion Military Institute in Marion, Alabama in 1960, where he won national honors as an All American football player. He owned and operated a carpet store in Baton Rouge for many years and later moved to San Diego where he was employed by Hickory Springs Carpet Mills as salesman.
Richard loved life and loved having fun being with his friends and family. He always said "the More the Merrier." He followed the stock market daily, loved going to the Palace every morning and then going to The Elks Lodge a little later in the day, and he loved hunting and fishing. He hunted and fished with the same group of men from Krotz Springs area, from high school days until his death. He has stayed in contact with many old friends from all over the country, speaking to them every couple of months.
Richard was the type of person that you never forgot. He was funny, caring, and interesting. Over the years in travels, there were many times that the people approached him that had met him 20-30 years earlier, and they always had a funny story to tell that involved him.
