Born October 17, 1936 in Olean, New York, he was a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Hoffman) Skok.
Before earning his Ph.D., he served as a budget analyst in the Pennsylvania Governor's Office of the Budget, where he met his beloved wife, Phyllis. They both attended graduate school at the University of Maryland.
Prior to his retirement, Dr. Skok was a professor of political science and public policy at Penn State University's Harrisburg campus.
In his free time, James enjoyed being a private pilot, reading, and extensively traveling the world, especially to Europe and Asia.
He continued to teach, even after retirement, serving in the patient project through the M.S. Hershey Medical Center, which allows students the opportunity to learn about medicine from the perspective of patients and their families.
In recent years, he served on the board of the Foreign Policy Association of Harrisburg.
He faced a long illness with great courage and dignity, and continued to enjoy life each day.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Millie Skok.
Surviving are his loving wife, Phyllis (St. John) Skok and his daughter, Dr. Deborah Ann Skok.
James is also survived by his brothers, Joseph and Rudolph Skok and their wives, Anna and Phyllis, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 02:30 PM Friday, March 2, at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg with the Rev. Thomas J. Rozman officiating. There will be a viewing at the funeral home prior to the services on Friday, from 01:00 PM to 02:30 PM.
Burial will take place in St. John's Cemetery.
