Barry L. Long, 69, of Harrisburg, died Friday, February 24, 2012, at the Lebanon VA Medical Center. He was the son of the late Agnes Long and was born September 15, 1942, in Harrisburg. He was the widower of Ellen Burns Long, who died in 2008.
Barry was a graduate of William Penn High School class of 1960 and was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam War. He retired from AT&T Communications in 2000 as a long distance telephone operator and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church.
Barry was a life- long fisherman and a New York Yankee's fan and enjoyed building and repairing computers. He was the athletic director for Holy Family Athletic Association for many years.
Left to celebrate his life are his wife, Gail Long; three children, Suzette Long and David Long (Shannon), of Montgomery, AL and Barry Long Jr. (Colleen), of Lewisburg, PA; as well as five step-children, Michelle Conte (Mark), of Etters, Michael Strickler (Kim), of Rosamond, CA, Correne Harris, of Grantville, Carol Carlton, of Harrisburg and Paul Strickler, of Los Angeles, CA; one granddaughter, Morgan Long, of Montgomery, AL; 11 step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren. Also left to celebrate his life are Agnes Burns, Tom Burns, Dave Burns, Dan (Liz) Burns, Robert Burns (Isabel), Jim Burns (Robin), Paul Burns and eight nieces and nephews.
The viewing will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2012, from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m, at the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry Street, Harrisburg. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 2, 2012, at 11:00a.m., at the funeral home. Father Robert Yohe, of Holy Family Church will be officiating. Burial will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery immediately after the service.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospice unit of the Lebanon VA Hospital, 1700 Lincoln Ave., Lebanon, PA 17042.
