Composer of Lift E'vry Voice and Sing and two hundred other popular songs, actor, and musicologist. The brother of poet James Weldon Johnson, teamed with Bob Cole, to change the face of African Americans in Minstrel Era Theatre. Conductor of Hammerstein's Opera House in London, he founded the Music School Settlment in Harlem, showcased Spirituals in concerts and recitals and was an active early member of ASCAP.Rosamnod was 81 years old at the time of his death at his home in New York.
