Largely attended funeral services for the late Thomas Shafer were held in the First Baptist church on Saturday afternoon at two thirty o'clock
His brethren of the Odd Fellows were present in full numbers and conducted the exercises at Forest Home cemetery where his remains were laid to rest. The church was filled with old friends and neighbors for Tom, as he was familiarly known to his acquaintances, was a man esteemed and beloved by many. There were many beautiful flowers covering the casket. Pastor Frank Weston conducted the service at the church and preached the sermon from Psalm 103; 13-14. Mrs. U. S. G. Williams, Mrs. Bert Jay, Mr. M. S. Cromer and Mr. Weston sang "Asleep in Jesus," "Abide With Me" and "Face to Face." The pallbearers were Morris O'Conner, John Mitchell, William Luzadder, Dan Slattery, Victor Wright and Fred Higgins.
Thomas Shafer was a son of Ellsworth and Margaret Shafer, and was born October 23, 1879. He passed away May 6, 1925, after a long illness. He was united in marriage to Miss Daisy Wright, June 4, 1908. Four children remain with their mother to mourn the going of a devoted husband and father. They are Jacob Clarence Ellisworth, Laura Frances, Vera Charlotte Arline, and Thomas Earl Shafer. His mother died several years ago. His aged father is still living. Two sisters, Mrs. Anna Hartman and Mrs. Theresa Woodcock of Los Angeles, remain. One sister, Mrs. Mary Bartee, is deceased. His sorrowing loved ones have the sympathy of many.
