Television Personality. A native of Dearborn, Michigan, James was born Artur Simeonvich Efimchik. James served in the United States Army for 2 years and even tried out for the New York Yankees before he got his break in television and radio. A talented Broadway star as well, he began his career as sub host and announcer for the television game show, "Concentration" from 1958 to 1979. He also hosted "Say When!" from 1961 to 1965, "Fractured Phrases" in 1965, "Temptations" from 1967 to 1968, "Matches 'N Mates" in 1967, "Pay Cards!" in 1968, "The Magnificent Marble Machine" from 1975 to 1976, "Blank Check" in 1975, "The Who, What Or Where Game" from 1969 to 1974, and "Catch Phrase" in 1985. Also an announcer he did the programs, "Face The Music" from 1980 to 1981, "The New Tic Tac Toe" from 1981 to 1982, "The Joker's Wild from 1981 to 1982, "Classic Concentration" in 1991, and "Family Feud Challenge" in 1992. James also appeared in the motion pictures, "Raw Justice" (1993), "Mallrats" (1995), and "Hunger" (2003). After his last game show in 1992, he founded and was President of his company, Art James Productions, located in Chaska, Minnesota, where he also lived.
