Lizzie Johns Burton, 94, the widow of Virgil Burton of Hickory Hill, formerly Taylor Ridge, died after a brief illness. She was a member of Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church and the daughter of the late Marion and Nannie Taylor Johns. Survivors include three children and their spouses, Roland R. and Pauline C. "Polly" Burton, Virgil T. "Poochie" and Kathleen R. Burton, and Evelyn M. Locker, all of Nicholasville; six grandchildren, Janet Karen Welch and her husband, Jimmy, Linda Gayle Blakeman and her husband, John, Gregory A. Burton, David A. Burton, Rodney T. Burton and his wife, Cindy, and Bradley R. Burton; eight great-grandchildren, Michelle Goddard and her husband, Mark, Melissa Blakeman, Christopher Burton, Lance T. Burton, Stacy Applegate and her husband, Andy, Kalelin A. Burton, Morgan Burton and Lindsey Burton; and two great-great-grandchildren, Sarah Emily Goddard and Andee-Grace Applegate.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, a sister, two half sisters, and four half brothers.
Services were held on Tuesday at Betts & West Funeral Home with the Rev. Hugh Delaney officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery. Bearers were Greg, David, and Rodney Burton, Glenn McDonald, Jimmy Welch, and Denton Willis. Honorary bearers were Bradley Burton, John Blakeman, Charlotte Willoite, Tommy Burton, Wayne Woods, William N. Jacobs, David Travis, Jessie Harvey, Holman Harvey Jr., Tom Smith, Allen Hager, Earl Johns, Kenneth Patterson, Donnie Welch, Eldon Cobb, Kevin McDonald, Marilyn, Vivian and Judy Sebastian.Donations are suggested to the Mount Lebanon United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Bluegrass. fg Published 5/1/03 Jesamine Journal
