Swedish actor and author. Born into a Jewish family, he became an actor in Hälsingborg (1945–1949) and Göteborg (1949–1956). Later he worked at the Swedish National theatre Dramaten in Stockholm, which he directed from 1966 until 1975. His appearance in fims, especially under the direction of Ingmar Bergman, made him world-famous. With Bergman, he made Scenes of a marriage (1973), Autumn Sonata (1978) and Fanny and Alexander (1982). With Andrej Tarkowski, Josephson made Nostalghia (1983).
