He was born in Tyrone, son of Edwin Thomas and Hilda (Gault) Cherry. He married Norma J. Shope Aug. 16, 1957, in Tyrone. She died March 2, 2004.
Surviving are a daughter, Tonya of Tyrone; two sons: Craig and wife, Barbara, and Kip, all of Tyrone; three grandchildren: Heidi, Travis and wife, Chrissy, and Garrett; and three sisters: Carmen Steele of Bellemead, Millicent Creighton of Landenberg and Barbara Cherry of Greenwood.
He was preceded in death by a son, Shane.
Mr. Cherry was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a private from 1958-64 with service in Germany as a medic. He retired in 2000 from the Pennsylvania Department of General Services as a building construction inspector after 12 years of service. He was owner/operator of Edwin Cherry Construction for 32 years.
Chip was a member of the Hookies Fire Company, Tyrone, the NRA, Sinnemahoning Sportsmen's Association, Mosquito Creek Sportsmen's Association, Frenchville, and the Tyrone Sportsmen's Club. He was an avid hunter.
Friends will be received from noon to 2 and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2009, at Feller Memorial Home, Tyrone, where a funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
