Taught Drawing, French and Latin at his fathers Normal School in Switzerland, a private school in Cheam England and a School in London. He was a teacher at the newly formed Normal College at Lancaster, Mass 1852-1862 and accepted a teaching position at Oswego College that lasted for the next 25 years. Hermann resigned in 1887 and spent the rest of his life in California.
So well respected by the Teaching community his ashes along with his wife"s were returned to Oswego and interred with their 2 daughters in Riverside Cemetery.
