ATMORE Josephine Burkhalter Howell, age 90, of Atmore, formerly of Gordo, died Feb. 23, 2012, at Atmore Community Hospital. Services will be 2:30 p.m. today, Feb. 26, 2012, at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dan Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in Gordo City Cemetery with Skelton Funeral Home of Reform directing. Visitation will be one hour prior and immediately following services at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John James "Jim" Howell; her parents; and her brother, Robert Burkhalter.
Survivors include her daughter, Janet Howell Taylor (Glenn) of Atmore, Ala.; her sisters, Eloise Wilson of Tuscaloosa, Ala. and Martha Marler of Northport, Ala.; her sister-in-law, Frances Burkhalter of Gordo, Ala.; three grandchildren, Allan Taylor, Suzanne Helton (Chad), and Mandy Senn (Jonah); and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Helton, Brett Helton, Chaston Helton, and Parker Senn.
Mrs. Howell was born February 6, 1922, in Gordo, Alabama to the late E.W. Burkhalter and Roberta Crocker Burkhalter. She was a member of Gordo First United Methodist Church, a retired secretary for Gordo High School, and a well known resident of Pickens County.
Pallbearers will be Allan Taylor, Chad Helton, Jonah Senn, Mike Wilson, Brian Junkin, and Sam Calloway.
