BEREA — Elwin B. VanWinkle, 75, of Berea, Ky., husband of 57 years to the love of his life, Nancy Lamb VanWinkle, died on Friday, February 24, 2012, at the Berea Health Care Center.

Mr. VanWinkle was born February 22, 1937, to the late Charles Sr. and Melassie Whittemore VanWinkle. He was a follower of Christ and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Irvine, Ky. Mr. VanWinkle was retired from Sherwin-Williams.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by: his son, Darrell VanWinkle, his sister, Etta Mae Gadd, and his brother, Charles VanWinkle Jr.

Mr. VanWinkle is also survived by: his children, Dale and his wife Reva VanWinkle, Jeff and his wife Janet VanWinkle, both of Berea, and Bill and his wife Teri VanWinkle of Irvine, Ky.; his brother, Forrester VanWinkle; his sister, Stella and her husband Howard Miller, both of Berea; six grandchildren, April, Melissa, Amy, Barkley, Kara and Matt. Five great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Monday, February 27, 2012, at Davis & Powell Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Miller officiating. Burial will follow in the Berea Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Pallbearers will be Dale, Jeff, Bill, Forrester, Barkley and Matt VanWinkle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Lanter, Howard Miller, Bill Stephenson, Woody Dixon, Ray Abrams and all other nephews.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Alzheimers Association.

The family would like to thank the staff at Berea Health Care Center for all their kind care and compassion.
