William was the son of James and Fanny Cannon Walker of Goochland County, Virginia. James was born in Goochland County, near the Williamsburg Virginia Colony. James was the son of John Walker. William married Rebecca Ann Coffman (daughter of David Harmon Coffman and Mary Ann Lovell Coffman of Hamblen County, TN), on Aug 29, 1816. Mary Ann Lovell was the daughter of Robert Lovell-III and wife Sara Marshall Lovell, both of Virginia.

William and Rebecca Walker's 11 children were: Pleasant-born 1817 (He moved with his brother Lovell, to Hill County, TX in 1894. He died there-TX burial place unknown. Pleasant's descendants live near the Dallas area today.), William Jr-born 1819-died 1870, Louise Walker Hill-born 1821- she and James Hill lived in McNairy Co., TN, James-1823, Mary Ann Walker Pitts-born 1824, Hamilton-1825 (his descendants live in the Dallas area today), Lovell Coffman Walker-born 1829, David-1831 (as a Confederate soldier, he was killed escorting the mail carrier near Ft. Smith, AK), Elizabeth Walker Stout-1833, Sarah Walker Golden-1835, and Markham-1837 (named after his mom's brother Markham Coffman) died 1852.
