Michael Henry Rutledge, 62, of Dothan passed away Saturday, February 25, 2012 at his residence.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Rutledge was born June 8, 1949 in Guntersville, AL and lived the early part of his life there. He was a 1967 graduate of Marshall County High School and a Veteran of the Vietnam War (1968-69) having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Rutledge was a recipient of the Purple Heart Award. He resided in Guntersville prior to moving to Dothan in 1979. He was employed with United Insurance Company of America until his retirement in 1990. He has resided in Newton and Dothan for the past 12 years. He loved to write poetry, make pottery, and loved history, reading and writing. He was a member of the American Legion.

Survivors include his sons, Steven Rutledge of Pinckard, and Eric Rutledge of Midland City; daughters, Stephanie Hollis of Dothan and Beckie Blocker of Dothan; grandchildren, Trenton Adams, Maycie Adams, Carly Kimel, Bishop Blocker, Bane Blocker, and Bailey Rutledge; sisters, Charla Jex and Sylvia Baker.
