Resided in New Hanover County,
NC when appointed Major in the
3rd Regiment N.C. Infantry, to
rank from May 16, 1861. Promoted
to Lt Colonel to rank from April
26, 1862. and promoted to Colonel
to rank from July 1, 1862. Fought
at the Seven Days Battles around
Richmond, VA and at Sharpsburg,
Md, September 17, 1862, he was
severely wounded in the thigh &
hip. Absent on leave from Sept,
1862, and submitted his resign-
ation on Sept 7, 1863, by reason
of his being unfit for field
service. Resignation officially
accepted on Oct 3, 1863.
Responsible for starting the local
Confederate Veterans Camp in the
Wilmington area after the war.
