George Waterhouse born in Poland, Me., May 13, 1813, married first, Sept. 17, 1837 Mahaly Gray, born in China, Me., May 13, 1810, dau. of Nathaniel and Abigail (Haskell) Gray. She died in Bangor, Me., May 20, 1881, and he married 2ndly, July 9, 1883, Mrs. Abbie Stevens, widow of Eliab Stevens, and dau of Theophilus and Joanna (Varney) Towle. She was born in Cherryfield, Maine., May 10,1825. Mr. Waterhouse was first a hotel keeper at Kilxaric, now Alton, Me. Later he located on the Westerly side of Bangor, then a small settlement on what was afterwards Allen St. In a few years he cleared a large tract of land and became a farmer. He then went into the business of cleaning out vaults. He was the only one in the business, employed a considerable number of men and made a financial success. He afterwards engaged in he real estate business, buying and selling timber lands, and retired with competance. He died in Bangor, July 26, 1889.

He was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Christian Church in Bangor, and gave the land on which the present church building was erected and a cash contribution in addition. He was always present at the Sunday services and the week-night prayer meeting. Generous to the poor and a "grand old man". A grandaughter says,- "I could write a book of the stories he told me when a child". "My dear old grandfather".

An obituary say;- "an old and well known resident of Bangor for many years. He gathered quite a property". His widow died in Bangor Oct. 23, 1897.
