He was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Christian Church in Bangor, and gave the land on which the present church building was erected and a cash contribution in addition. He was always present at the Sunday services and the week-night prayer meeting. Generous to the poor and a "grand old man". A grandaughter says,- "I could write a book of the stories he told me when a child". "My dear old grandfather".
An obituary say;- "an old and well known resident of Bangor for many years. He gathered quite a property". His widow died in Bangor Oct. 23, 1897.
