A service at the Patio Garden in Memorial Lawn Cemetery will be held Tuesday at 2 P.M. for Richard Leroy Atchison of Ladson, S.C., a former Emporian who died Friday in Charleston, S.C. The Rev. Clarence Davis of Topeka will conduct the service. Members of Ball-McColm Post 5, American Legion, will have military services. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn.


The family will receive friends at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home Monday from 7 to 8:30 P.M.


Mr. Atchison served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, and after his retirement was a maintenance supervisor for Celanese Plastics and Specialty Company in Charleston. He was born Aug. 9, 1940, in Canon City, Colo. to Thomas Jerry and Gladys Marjorie Davis Atchison. The family moved to Wichita in 1944 and to Emporia in 1945.


Mr. Atchison is survived by his wife, Joyce Baumstemlier Atchison, whom he married in Miami, Okla. on Oct 10, 1963. Other survivors are his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gavin, 1731 Whittier St.; two children, Clayton Jerome and Carin Jolene Atchison, both of Ladson; one brother, Thomas J. Atchison of Edmond, Okla.; three sisters, Gayla Browning, Rt. 1, LaVerne Lyman of Arkansas City and Linda Wiley of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. His father and one brother, Owen E. Atchison, died earlier.
