Harold L. "Ziggy" Zehnder, 77, of Beaver, passed away Monday, August 1, 2011, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 29, 1934, in Sewickley, and was the son of the late Charles and Lillian Cetto Zehnder. He was a graduate of the Ambridge High School's class of "52". He proudly served in the Army during the Korean War where he was a communications repairman. Following his honorable discharge, he returned to his family and job with Bell Atlantic (Verizon) with 43 years of service as a "lineman for the county". In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening and the outdoors at his cottage in Brookeville. He also enjoyed dancing, music, walking and hunting with his loving wife, Kathy. Ziggy was a faithful member of Park Presbyterian Church serving as a Deacon. He was a golfer with the Presbyterian Men's Group and enjoyed the Bell Atlantic breakfast crew and friends from Jefferson County. Ziggy is survived by his wife, Kathryn Culley Zehnder; his daughter, Sharon (Zehnder) Young; a granddaughter, Nicole and Dan Huber. Ziggy was anxiously awaiting the birth of a great-grandchild, Nicole and Dan's son, Nicholas. He is also survived by his stepchildren and families, Cindy and Rollin James, Richard and Tammy Hanby and daughter Jillian; Matthew and Renee Hanby and daughters, Julia Hanby and Leigha and husband, Dana Coon; Revs. Jo and James Ramsey and children, Benjamin and Fiona; Kathy Jo and Robert Hagerty and children, Devin and McKayla; Rachael Schumaker and daughter, Skye; Wayne and Belisa Hixenbaugh and daughter, Laurel. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, cousins and extended family. Zig was preceded in death by his son, Howard Zehnder; his first wife, Joyce (Eakin) Stout; his second wife, Mary Lu Hanby; his sisters, Lois Cherba and Arlene Dennison; stepdaughter, Wendy Hixenbaugh and step son-in-law, Roland Schumaker; step sister-in-law, Rosalyn Keifer.
