EMMA (GRIMES) TAYLOR SHELLENBERGER

Emma Taylor Shellenberger, 90, of El Dorado passed away Friday March 19, 2010. The oldest of six children, Emma, was born Feb. 15,1920 in Tishomingo, Okla., to Fred and Lela (Edwards) Grimes. Emma grew up in Anadarko, Okla. On June 19, 1940 she was united in marriage to Oscar S. Taylor. After moving several times in the early years of their marriage, Emma and Oscar settled near Hill City, Kansas where they lived until 1968 when Oscar's job brought them to Eldorado. Oscar passed away in 1975 and Emma remained in El Dorado near her family and friends. In 1984 she was united in marriage to Leo Shellenberger. He passed away in 1986. Emma was a full time wife and mother, devoting her life to her family, friends and her dog, Quincy. She spent her life caring for others through her work as a nurse.
Emma is survived by her son, Bob and wife Janice Taylor; daughter, Judy and husband Bill Burtchet; daughter-in-law, Freda Taylor, all of El Dorado; 11 grandchildren, Jim and wife Kathy Taylor of Hays, Tammy and husband Scott Darnall of Glasco, Kan., Joe and wife LaDonna Taylor, Rob and wife Christy Taylor II, Jason and wife Jennifer Taylor, all of El Dorado, Wade Burtchet of Lawrence, Shawn and wife Rachel Taylor of Waynesville, Mo., Kevin and wife Stacy Byfield of Wichita, Kari and husband Jim Talbert of Scott City, Jana and husband Andrew McCoy of Belt, Mont., and Brian and wife Shari Hosler of Hastings, Minn.; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; brothers, Buck Grimes of Austin, Texas, and Jim Grimes of Casper, Wyo.; and sisters, Leona Abshere of Chetopa, Kan., Hester Williams of Hoffman, Texas, and Etta Oden, Cooper, Texas.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Emma was preceeded in death by her son Jim Taylor (2005), grandchildren Pamela Taylor (1994), Lisa Byfield, (2004), and one great grandchild, Jacob Byfield, (2008).

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Church of the Nazarene, El Dorado. Interment will be at Sunset Lawns Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to LakePoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. These may be left with Carlson Funeral Home where friends may call.
