TILLIE MICHEL, PIONEER, DIES
Came to Spokane Before Fire of 1889
Mrs. Tillie Selma Michel, 83, Spokane pioneer, died yesterday at her home, W 430 Kiernan.
Mrs. Michel came to Spokane years before the great fire in 1889. Her husband, the late Matthew Michel, was a carpenter.
The couple lived in a South Side home near what is now Sacred Heart hospital. Later, when Michel became school director at an old Sunnyside school, they moved to Moran prairie.
Mrs. Michel was a member of the First Assembly of God church.
She is survived by seven daughters, including Mrs. Richard Reeves, Mrs. Harry Gerber, Mrs. LeRoy Barnes, Mrs. Thor Hansen and Miss Lenore Michel, all of Spokane, and Mrs. E. O. Knobel, Latah, Wash.; a sister, two brothers, 15 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
The body is at Hazen & Jaeger funeral home.
