JONESVILLE MAN CHARGED IN SLAYING OF STEP-FATHER
A Jonesville man, now in the County Jail has been charged with murder in connection with the slaying of his step-father, last Tuesday morning. He allegedly struck Bowman in the head with a hammer.
A spokesman for the Sheriffs Office stated that Lawrence Doyle, about 31, has been charged with the murder of Neil Bowman (this is the oldest son of Alexander Lee and Julia Ann {Roop} Bowman - Lelander Mannillis Bowman) who died late Tuesday afternoon in the Lee General Hospital.
According to the spokesman, Doyle told Sheriff Creed Chadwell he and Bowman had gotten into an argument. In a tobacco barn located on the Harlan road near Jonesville, where they were grading tobacco. He did not say what the argument was about.
Doyle came to the jail and surrendered immediatley after the incident occured.
Bowman, 75 years of age, was rushed to Lee General Hospital. He died late in the afternoon without regaining consciousness.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Mae Bowman; one daughter, Mrs. Mary Knicely, Pansy,KY; three grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Aleck, Baker, and Harrison Bowman, all of Jonesville, and Ernest, Appalachia; three sisters, Mrs. Julia Spivey, Jonesville; Mrs. Mattie Wells, Big Stone Gap; Mrs. Erie Hobbs, Mendota.
Funeral services will be held at 2:oo o'clock this afternoon at Fleenor's Chapel Baptist Church with the Rev. D. Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Woodward Cemetery near Jonesville.
Davidson Funeral Home of Jonesville was in charge of the arrangements.
